strong female television characters

Unlike the damn awful reprisal of Bionic Woman, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is quite a good adaptation of the original film to the small screen. In my mind, the reason Bionic sucks and Terminator rocks is the same, casting and believability. I was skeptical when I read last year that both the Bionic Woman and Terminator was being recycled and shot back on screen in 2007/2008. This is not to say I had every intention of watching the pilots of both. I’ve been looking for another TV show as good as Alias and Veronica Mars with a strong lead female character kick ass and using smarts instead of her “assets” to get the job done, no matter the job. I was skeptical at first when they brought Jeremy Sisto on the newest season of Law and Order although I love him as an actor. It’s just all there other attempts to make Law and Order at least as interesting as Law and Order Criminal Intent was in its first five seasons, failed. But, damn what a comeback! The first episode of this current 7th season was nothing to talk about. It wasn’t bad, but it did have a bit too much story about Detective Cyrus Lupo’s (Sisto) family. Moonlight
I’m loving Moonlight, the CBS drama about a vampire PI, Mick St. John. First, the actor who plays the vamp PI, Alexander O’Loughlin is both hot and a great actor. Second, the very attractive blonde woman who plays his would-be love interest Beth, played by Sophia Miles, is actually a great actress and not just eye candy. Third, Veronica Mars’ Logan character (Jason Dohring), plays Mick’s friend Josef. At first I was a bit unconvinced about vampires in LA and any story that could be wrapped around it. Bad acting usually follows high concept shows, especially on a very hit or miss (mostly miss) station like CBS.
