I think those actors, TV or film, who don’t play the game and focus on the acting should be admired, not admonished. And yes, it goes without saying that there are unwritten rules that say actors should behave a certain way and kiss a little arse for reasons X, Y and Z, but staying true to the reasons you are an actor and to yourself in general is part of the risk and reality of living in this questionable modern, progressive world we live in now. And, most important to me, it’s reflected in the roles they choose and how well they play those roles. There is, to me, nothing worse than seeing a strong actor, let alone an exceptional one, have to regurgitate words from a thoughtless and poorly written script. Plus, solid acting and good writing makes even the silliest film more entertaining simply because I’m not distracted by writing that makes no sense or acting that’s painful to watch.

I just love Netflix because it’s convenient, affordable and an ideal way to rent movies to watch in the comfort of my home. I also love Netflix because now I can also watch television shows and miniseries I couldn’t get to watch on TV or don’t watch on TV since I absolutely hate commercials. They get in the way of the momentum of a show or a movie for that matter. Anyway, I’ve been watching some great TV on DVDs since using Netflix. Below are Netflix TV on DVD titles I have watched and recommend.

I liked Katherine Heigl when she was on Roswell but don’t much care for her new found fame and character on Grey’s Anatomy. But, nonetheless, I respect any actress that wants to be taken seriously. Read on:

“Actress Katherine Heigl, a surprise Emmy winner last year for her role on hit TV drama “Grey’s Anatomy,” has bowed out of this year’s race in an apparent swipe at producers for diminishing her presence on the series.

Heigl, 29, quietly chose not to submit her name for consideration as an Emmy contender this year but explained her rather conspicuous absence from the ballot when asked by Tom O’Neil, columnist for the Los Angeles Times’ showbiz awards website TheEnvelope.com.

“Peter Facinelli has joined the cast of Showtime’s untitled Edie Falco pilot.

In addition, Paul Schulze, Merritt Wever, Eve Best and Haaz Sleiman have come aboard as series regulars, and Anna Deavere Smith has signed on as a recurring. The dark comedy project, co-produced by Showtime and Lionsgate TV, centers on a strong-willed New York nurse (Falco).
