Chris Rock at the Paramount Theatre

Chris Rock Paramount TheatreBade and I went to the Chris Rock “No Apologies” comedy show at the Paramount Theatre (Oakland) this past Sunday. We had a great time. Seeing anything at the Paramount, a beautiful art-deco landmark, is a treat. Though I found myself laughing alot at the comedy, in typical male comedian fashion there was too much use of the “p” word and in typical comedy fashion, too much lcd jokes regarding stereotypical gender roles. Anyway, I wrote a review at my newly redesigned and re-imagined “Oh, My! OAKLAND” blog website, check it out here.

Welcome, Daniel Sey (Shay)!

Well, my brother Seun and his wife Mairead just had their first baby, Daniel Sey (Shay). (see pic below) He looks a little like my brother so I’m sure he’ll be a hit with the ladies when he gets older. And being biracial only helps. It’s the new trend in babies I hear [insert laughter here]. Anyway, congrats bro and Mairead! I know Seun will be a good father (and Mairead a good mother), one of few who can prove that there are some still left in this sad world lacking parental accountability.

Here’s a short list of the dos and donts of good parenting:

Happy Freakin’ New Year!!!

New Year’s Eve in New York CityHappy freaking New Year!! So yesterday, my sister and I had dinner and a show at Cafe de la Paz in Berkeley. The restaurant is a Spanish (Spain Spanish not “Hispanic” Spanish). The food was quite tasty. They first served some tapas: pastry thing with meat; cornbread square; a glob of stinky cheese; and another glob of herbed butter on the side. The main meal was a buffet. I had chipotle mashed potatoes, lamb and some type of sweet sauce, mixed salad, mixed veggies, and a mushroom medley something or other. I know, my descriptions suck. Nonetheless, the food was great. We had a choice of either a piece of flan or a scoop each of both white and dark chocolate mousse. I had the mousse, Bade had the flan. The mousse was fantastic. A little while later, and during the show, they served us these little pastries wrapped in a soft tortilla like shell. Inside the shell was cheesecake filling and dripped on the shell was a sweet tangy sauce. Definitely the tastiest food of the night.

NHL AMP Energy Winter Classic 2008: Buffalo VS Pittsburgh

NHL Winter Classic 2008

As some of you may know, I love hockey. Today was the NHL AMP Energy Winter Classic in Buffalo, NY between the Buffalo Sabres and the Pittsburgh Penguins. It’s the first NHL hockey game played on an outside rink (football stadium converted into a regulation ice rink) and in the United States. The Montreal Canadiens and the Edmonton Oilers (whom I love) played a similar game in Edmonton back on November 22, 2003 (a celebration on the Oilers’ 25th anniversary as an NHL team). The Heritage Classic was the first outdoor game played ever in the NHL. Two games were played. One between the “legends”, aka, older NHL players like Messier and Gretzky. The second game was played by the actual players of both Edmonton and Montreal.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year…Because I’m Not At Work

Snoopy ChristmasSo, Christmas has come and gone, and yet I am still home and NOT at work. It is definitely the most wonderful time of the year. Anyway, I spent this time off so far hanging with my sister Bade (aka Tayo) and eating tasty food and enjoying the season. On Saturday we went to see The Nutcracker at The Paramount Theater. It was fun but I realized I don’t much care for ballet. However, there was this one part with an erotic Arabian dance between a very sexy man and woman. Despite the PG-13 rating of The Nutcracker in general, it got the most applause of the whole night…for good reason.

News Roundup - What’s Going on Avec Moi?

moving truckLet’s see, what’s going on in Kemioland these days. Well, my office (Avalon) is moving from Emeryville to Berkeley, to the same office I used to work in before working at Avalon. Basically, Perseus Group bought Avalon (Emeryville office) and our distributor PGW (Berkeley office), so now we’re merging offices to save money or whatever. I used to work for and absolutely hated working at PGW. I’m going back in time. Quite annoying. But, I won’t dwell. There is a reason for everything and all things are temporary. So, the move happens this Friday. We get to leave at noon Friday and will be all moved in on Monday.
